Guidelines for referral
Alliance Medical accepts referrals which are clinically justified in accordance with the i-refer guidelines. I-refer guidelines have been adopted as the Pan-European guidelines:
- I-refer conforms to the highest evidence-based standards
- Protects the patient from unnecessary ionising radiation
- Provides recommendations based on current, evidence-based guidelines, focusing on those most relevant to primary and emergency care
- Provides the evidence base for which imaging resources can be used efficiently and effectively, while providing a rational basis to ensure the best use of time and other resources in clinical radiology
- Offers some guidance for asymptomatic individuals.

We accept referrals for MRI scans from CORU registered Physiotherapists at many of our clinical sites. Referrals for MRI must be within an appropriate scope of physiotherapist clinical practice. Alliance Medical’s normal clinical pathway will apply whereby the physiotherapist as referrer will be the primary recipient of the resultant Radiologist report and as such will be responsible for direct management of all clinical findings including any onward clinical referral.
